So it has been a good stretch of time since I last updated the ol’ blog here. I have had a lot going on in life and have been keeping myself busy with several different projects and new endeavors. I have been taking a break from doing much writing and producing with My Subversive Media. As I stated on here previously, MSM would be something that always evolved and changed. I had some fun with the “electronic” stuff, but it is not something that I have really enjoyed performing live with. I think it best to say I have gotten all that off my chest and out of my system for now. I do plan on releasing more of the tracks I have recorded, but I am more excited about the new material I have been writing, which is very different. A bit calmer, you could say. I look forward to sharing them with you all soon.
Many of you know Newt Carter, who used to be the Front of House Engineer for Perpetual Groove. What you probably may not know about Newt is what an amazing songwriter he is. I have been working with Newt on demos of many of his new songs here in Athens, and yes, he plans on releasing an album of it all sometime in the next year. Playing music with Newt has been an incredible experience. He writes some of the most amazing and beautiful songs that have such natural hooking melodies, they stick in your head for days on end. I look forward to being able to share this project with you all when it becomes available. I think you will be blown away by the taste and elegance of these tunes.
Probably the biggest news is that I have made a commitment to become a full time member of SeepeopleS. As many of you know, I did several shows with the band last year as a guest musician. My close friend Peter Keys had to make a difficult decision to leave SeepeopleS to be the new full time keyboard player for Lynrd Skynrd! Congratulations should go out to Peter on landing such a huge gig like that! I am thrilled, humbled, and a little nervous to follow in Peter’s shoes in SeepeopleS, but intend to do my best to make Peter proud while still bringing my own sound to the band.
Now I know a lot of you out there are saying, “But Matt, you left pgroove because you could no longer commit to touring and being away from your family for such long stretches of time.” My reply is yes, you are absolutely right, and that is still the case. However, there is a big difference between the way SeepeopleS tours versus the manner in which most jambands tour. SeepeopleS will have some scattered dates this spring and summer mostly in the South East. However, we won’t have a tour until this fall and the tour is broken up into two weeks each month for September, October, and December. September will be an east coast run in NYC, Boston, DC, Raleigh, Charleston, Portland and many more. October’s two weeks will be mid west and Colorado (Denver look for a Halloween show). The last two weeks are west coast in December. That’s right lefties, I’m heading your way again and I can’t wait to do it up west coast style. As you can see, six weeks in two week jogs spread over four months is easily manageable and keeps me at home still plenty of the time. Will there be shows after the album release tour? Of course, but they will be every few weeks, and just a couple at a time.
In other related news, SeepeopleS will be releasing Apocolypse Cow vol. 2 September 1st online for FREE. That’s right, I said FREE. It’s SeepeopleS own “financial bailout” for all of you. A hard disc copy with extra tracks will be released officially Jan. 1 2010. Look for even more versions of the CD and extra tracks to be released after that. There is a lot of great new material that we are very much looking forward to getting out to all of you. Even new ways for you to interact with SeepeopleS music and make it your own. I don’t want to say too much too soon, but you definitely want to stay tuned for whats to come.
The first upcoming shows with SeepeopleS are May 8 & 9 Awesometown! Awesometown is a festival put on by my good friends, Give Us The Money Lebowski in Morrisville, PA and includes a great lineup with Give Us the Money Lebowski, Dr. Fameus (Allen Aucoin of tDB), Cliffsidepush, The Heavy Pets, Nate Wilson Group, and many more. Also happening that weekend will be a set with myself, Allen Aucoin, Aaron Goldberg(Skydog Gypsy), and Tim Palmieri (The Breakfast). We will be doing a completely unrehearsed set of music that is sure to be loose, cool, and funky. There are some other SeepeopleS dates this June that I will get the details on and let you all know asap.
Now, I know it’s late notice, but tomorrow night in Asheville, NC I will be doing an accoustic show with Will Bradford at Hookah Joe’s starting at 9:30 PM. It’s going to be a special night, as it is my wife Kelly’s birthday! I hope to see many of you there!
Finally, you should all know that in a couple of months I am letting the domain for www.mysubversivemedia.com expire. No matter really, as all it does is direct you straight to this blog. I will be continuing the blog and promise to be better about updating it and keeping you all posted to my goings on musically. If you can’t remember the website (even I can’t), please be sure to subscribe to my blog with email updates. Also, I want to interact with you guys more so if you have any questions or comments please be sure to leave them in the comments section on the blog.
That is it for now, I look forward to hearing from all of you and even more to playing for all of you very soon!
